Police interrupts showbiz event in Buea
The militarization of the English-speaking regions of Cameroon is taking a toll on the popular and exciting night life of the people of these regions.
Recently, a well attended showbiz event was interrupted by the arm forces and reports say some of the attendees were arrested.
“Rate My Playlist” is a new showbiz event put together by Canal 2 English host, Ngoh Dalida to celebrate Cameroon urban music by asking two famous celebs to rate their playlist for the listening and dancing pleasure of the crowd. This week, it was a battle of music directors Dr. Nkeng Stephens and Adah Akenji.
It was rather unfortunate that during the event at Dream Lounge bar and restaurant in Buea on September 20, police men reportedly invaded the venue asking the spot to shut down its doors.
“The police had given the place 30 minutes to close before the arrest happened. But it seems they didn’t. So when the police returned and the place was still alive, they were forced to arrest people,” a source tells us.
The action by the military armed forces has received serious backlash online with many accusing the police of assault and wrongful arrests of innocent citizens.
“The funny thing is that there was no press release or radio announcement asking bars or people not to be out by midnight in Buea. In fact, telling the bars to shut down by midnight doesn’t necessarily mean you told the consumers about your plan. So arresting innocent people just because they are having fun is really terrible, added the source
Organizer of the event, Ngoh Dalida has reacted to the act taken by the police. The TV host took to her Facebook Thursday, September 21 saying,
“The police is your friend” B.S
Well thanks to the Governor, Commissioner and the Popo for almost ruining the night, being our uninvited guest and for making the second edition of Rate My Playlist a very memorable one, we will never forget it. And I mean it in the most sarcastic way ever. Sorry to everyone who wanted more out of last night with Dr. Nkeng and Adah Akenji, hopefully we will catch up real soon on that.
Though it was cut short, We can all agree it still was one very dope Kmer Music night. #RateMyPlaylistTeam.”
The military still roams the town of Buea.
