Wams: Journalism and Mass Communications graduate becomes music star
Listen up y’all! There’s a new guy in town!
Wams also known as Mr.Classic is about to release his debut album titled, “Inertia” featuring hit tracks: Newsman and Samedi Soir.
The fast rising singer is introducing a newfangled sound that is carved out of traditional music like Bottle dance, Makossa, Afropop, Jazz, Bikutsi, Congolese rumba, hip-hop, RnB and Blues.
Wams (real name Anjianjei Constantine) grew up with his uncle Amumba (real name Lucas El Chic Echondong), a celebrated Highlife and Akarai musician from Cameroon. He learned basic music theory and played the guitar as he tried to follow in his uncle’s footsteps. At the age of 15, his uncle’s band would give him the chance to interpret American songs and also perform several contemporary African hits to the appreciation of many.
The Journalism and Mass communication graduate started making a name for himself when he released his debut single titled Amingya meaning Hello in his native Ngie dialect. He has since gone ahead to write theme songs for movies, documentaries, and community based campaigns.
Wams is now using his music to raise awareness on the ills of Journalism practice in 3rd world countries like Cameroon. His maiden official release called Newsman is now out! (See video below)
The singer reveals his mellow vocals with a rhythmic undercut that bears testament to his punctuated musical experience with elements of reggae, hip-hop, punk, jazz, pop and RnB. The video reveals a tale of the 60’s of how an investigative journalist was haunted by Abena Tary the rich man.
“I believe that music could better and not change the world, if used to promote a good cause,” he says.
