Locko at Coke Studio Africa, why is it a Big Deal?

After X-Maleya made the breakthrough to Coke Studio Africa in 2016, the ultra-talented Dance Avec Moi singer, Locko of Big Dreams Entertainment took turn to represent Cameroon at Coke Studio Africa 2017.

Locko teamed up with the multi-award winning, platinum singer/songwriter and producer Tresor. The DRC born inspiration released his highly anticipated sophomore album “The Beautiful Madness” globally in May 2017. He is signed to the record label Sony RCA in Africa and Ultra Records Globally. Both headline acts were produced at Coke Studio 2017 by Gemini Major, the Malawian-born record producer and singer-songwriter.

So, why is Locko’s participation at Coke Studio 2017 a Big Deal?

It should be noted that Coke studio is not a competition program which has auditions like The Voice. Recognized and renowned artists perform at the show. It is for the “acclaimed” artists, testament to Locko being one.

Coke Studio Africa is one of the macro-trends impacting Africa by celebrating the power of music and coalescing Africa’s incredible talents on one stage. It reaches to different artists, styles and countries to inspire a new generation of African music fans.

The show has a growing footprint as it airs in 27 local stations in 14 countries with a million fans reached directly each week through their digital platform alone and about 400 million radio impressions.

This year’s Coke Studio is an amalgamation of Coke Studio Africa and Coke Studio South Africa to yield Coke Studio Africa 2017, broadcasting in more countries than ever before in Sub-Saharan Africa.

“Having broken the barrier of ethnicity and culture, Coke Studio Africa is certainly one of the best things that has ever happened to African music. Coke Studio influences the part of music that interests a wider range of African people… If it wasn’t for Coke Studio Africa – as a producer – I am sure I wouldn’t have met some of the top artists I’ve worked with on and after the show,” Nigerian Producer, Masterkraft asserts that Coke Studio Africa is the most important platform for African artists.

One of the challenges of African Music as a whole is the lack of interaction, collaboration and cooperation among artists. Coke studio Africa seeks to break those barriers to provide Locko and other distinctive artists with a chance for creative explorations in collaborations and increasing their fan base (do we need to emphasize on the importance of this?) in the process.
