Liz smartly separates the creation into four sections to perfectly explain what exactly inspired each design in her new Heritage Collection which includes, pencil skirt, African Men’s shirts, Female blouses and Pants.
See below Margo’s Mode‘s diversity and how they reveal themselves through Liz‘s own words.
1. The SAWA dress
“The SAWA mostly referes to people living at the coast of Cameroon: Douala, Bakweri and the Bakossi. The Sawa dresses, comprise of an A-shaped skirt and top, was inspired by the loincloth locally called wrapper. The wrapped top is inspired by traditional clothes worn by fishermen throughout the east coast of AFRICA. The skirt carries beads on it indicating the bright eyes of the sea fish,” Ngwane Liz
2. The Diamond Dress
“Inspired by the “Casas Obus” is an ancient building found in the northern part of Cameroon. It is mostly built by ‘titled’ Muslims. The front of our diamond skirt is like that of the Casas and it represents the four areas of concern – family, social, professional and relationship. The fabric was well chosen with open holes just like the building,” Liz Ngwane.
3. “Femme”
“It is a dressed inspired from the woman who’s place is in the kitchen. Back in the day, all a woman could do was cook, that was their office. This dress symbolizes humility of a woman.Yes “Femme” means woman,” Ngwane Liz.
4. The “Esang” Dress
“Inspired from the Korup national park. Esang means peace in the Bakossi local language in Cameroon. As peaceful as water can be so is the Korup. It’s backed with beautiful geographic landscape .The dress has opening like bridges symbolizing the support the irons of the bridge. The flowery Ankara reps the green vegetation. This dress then implies peace between people visiting the park,” Ngwane Liz.
“The Heritage Collection” is inspired from the cultural historical, social and geological heritage of Africa. This collection is to promote African print at the work place. The outfits have remarkable fits which are flattering to all body types. The clothes blend easily and open our senses to the wealth of color and diversity of Africa. This collection draws African sources of immense power to play with texture.
