Agbor Gilbert puts ‘proud’ award nominees on full blast at the Urban Jamz Awards
Agbor Gilbert Ebot is not new to airing his candid opinion anywhere, to anyone and about anybody.. and he didn’t fail to send out a sound warning to ‘proud nominees’ who do not show up at award shows at the 2018 Urban Jamz Awards in Buea.
The founder of the Cameroon International Film Festival (CAMIFF) took to the podium at the 2018 Urban Jamz Awards, Saturday night in Buea to send out a powerful message to nominees who have made it a habit to not show up at award ceremonies.
“It is very primitive for a nominee to not show up at an event… It means you do not regard the event and the award as anything,” Agbor Gilbert told the crowd.
“I think it is only fair for you to be present and show your fans who vote for you and the event organiser that you actually care. These events help in building our industry in one way or the other and it will be great to be part of such an initiative which builds urban music,” he added.
Agbor Gilbert went further to acknowledge the organiser, Valery Atia and his team for a job well done “despite not having major sponsors”. Before praising film makers in the Cameroon Film Industry for coming out and showing support to Atia.
“I look around the room and I see so many actors here tonight and that is a great thing because music and film making need each other. I hope when it comes to movie events, musicians will also show their support,” Gilbert said.
He also took the opportunity to announce that his upcoming event, CAMIFF 2018 is on the way this April and he will appreciate Cameroonians coming out to support and build the film making industry in Cameroon.

it has become a norm in cameroon music arena for some nominees not to attend awards . all them big awards started from some where to become big .
Everything he said is correct. It goes to show that these artists do not value the award show and so find no need to come which to me is kind of stupid
Not showing up at an award ceremony as a nominee is rude and disrespectful. He is right
I totally agree with Gilbert here. .. especially if you were not on duty or on any assignment. Its very rude not to attend
Some of these our artists think they are too big to attend award shows just because they believe its a waste of time and there’s no money from the award. It’s really a shame and lack of responsibility and maturity.
Thank you Gilbert
Our artists and the way some of them think used to baffle me.
It is just shameful. So just because there is no money to accompany the trophy you wont attend? It’s pure nonsense. These events give you credibility. It brings you closer to people, your fans, industry heads, media and event organisers. So staying at home or hang out with friends is more important than that? Terrible.
Artists sometimes are not to be blamed for such things. Managers or PRs are. They are the ones responsible for the programming of these artits. Its sad but its the truth. They should be held responsible
Gilbert has a point. Its actually very primitive, stupid and childish!
I( really love this! Tell them in their faces. If Daphne could come, why was Askia, Mr Leo, Ngoma, Ambe, Salatiel, Jovi be present!??? Anglophones are like this… always showing off pride when they are nothing!
Sometimes these artists too have explanations to such absences. Because they can’t come out to say it doesn’t mean they were disrespecting the event or organisers. You people should calm down
I completely stand with Gilbert on this one. Anglophone artists are sometimes just foolish and rude for no good reason. Who do they think they are. How much do they even make in a month or year. Who knows them in China, Japan, Britain or US?
They can’t attend Urban jamz awards as nominees, yet if it is BET Award, they will do everything possible to attend!
It’s simple, Na Anglophone di kill Anglophone.
Come and see the same artists begging for money from these organisers, asking how far, no show for the boys? If i am Valery Atia, they will forever hide in shame for doing such.
Primitive?????????????????????????????????? hahahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha
