“I won’t promote songs for free anymore” – DJ Wazabanga informs Cameroonian artists

DJ Wazabanga has just sent a communique to all Cameroonian artists that he will not be carrying out free promotion for any music artist any more as from June 1st!

Call this his new month resolution but the popular DJ is putting his foot down, saying enough is enough with artists disrespecting his profession (and his fellow DJs) with their chicken change they usually offer as promotional fee… even though they spend higher sums for production and shooting of their videos.

In a post on his Facebook wall on May 31, Wazabanga says his decision to stop all free promo for both established and upcoming artists has been on his mind for quite a while.

“Hello everyone it’s been a long time coming but I decided to sit and observe maybe things are going to change but they are instead getting worst,” Wazabanga wrote on Facebook.

“We keep asking ourselves why our Cameroon Music Industry cannot progress, because the already-made artists don’t support the upcoming artists and it’s really sad to see this. Even the artists themselves take huge amounts of money to shoot videos but they don’t come and see DJ’s for promotions. Then you people will now sit in your houses and say DJ’s don’t promote Cameroon music.

“Me, Wazabanga Champion, I love Cameroon music and you can ask many of these artists I promote. I cannot count how many of their songs I play without even them knowing but I have taking a decision to stop because it has been proven that people don’t want to see others grow,” he went on.

Wazabanga further revealed in his post that an artist disrespected him recently when he offered him 2k to ‘promote his new song. He then asked if artists understand what promotion of music really entails.

“One Kamair [Cameroonian] artist ( I won’t call names) came and met me yesterday for promotion and was giving me 2000 Francs to promote his song. Like seriously? I was so shocked! Whereas, he’s paid so much money for beat making and I don’t even know if you people know the meaning of promotion. So, what I’m saying is I won’t promote songs for free anymore! If you want your song to be played, you come see me well prepared. If you take this personal it’s your cup of tea #BestEver #TeamWaza4Life,” he ended.

DCODERS, what do you think about DJ Wazabanga’s post? Is he right or not? Let us know below.
