Cameroonian singer Montess reveals biggest inspiration in music
Cameroonian singer, Montess has revealed her biggest inspiration behind her music career and it will shock you.
The AFRIMA 2017 winner has recently taken to Instagram to reveal the female artist who is behind the reason why she sings.
Over the weekend, the Nigerian music superstar, Tiwa Savage beat Davido and Fally Ipupa to win ‘Best African Act’ at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards in Bilbao, Spain. Montess sent out a congratulatory message to her but she also took the opportunity to tell the ‘Kele Kele Love’ singer how she’s influenced her music career over the years.
Montess only joined many other Nigerian music stars who also wished Savage well after her huge win in at the #mtvema.
Back in 2017, Montess took home Best Female Artist Central Africa at the Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) but surprisingly, not too many of her Cameroonian music colleagues celebrated her victory in Lagos, Nigeria. Instead, she received hate messages and insulting social media posts casting doubt over her win and her talent.
In an interview in June, Montess did open up about the backlash and hate she received from music fans and some of her music colleagues.
“When I won AFRIMA that night, the first post I saw that same night was Agbor Gilbert’s post saying ‘best female artist Central Africa?’ I saw it and I was like whatever… When I slept and woke up the next day, I saw other people’s post including Salatiel.
“I felt a little disappointed with Salatiel in particular because he is someone we talk on a daily basis concerning music and we had plans of working together and to see somebody whom you felt believed in your talent say such a thing is already an X for me to know that he doesn’t believe in me…” she explained on Tori Dey.
Well, Montess has moved on, just like her fans and haters and she’s working on new singles. Today, she isn’t shy to congratulate another female powerhouse for winning big on an international award show.
