AMVCA 2018 beauty: Nude lips, smokey eye stage powerful comebacks

The 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) practically bid a huge farewell to the red lips and welcomed the nude with opened arms, alongside her close friend, the smokey eye.

When it comes to lips, there are usually two famous camps: the bold and then the nude. And whilst the former will always have its fans (Stephanie Coker, Toyin Abraham and Bisola at this year’s Awards), the latter seems to have swiftly matched its way to the top spot at a night typically trademarked by glamour, and traditionally, bold reds.

“I think the makeup theme for this year’s event was nude,” claims Jane Francis (Cameroonian MUA). “Less is more really. It’s so lovely,” she adds.

This year, many of our African movie/TV stars opted to extend an unrelenting trend of “no makeup makeup”.  Our makeup experts claim that the nude lip has been the biggest makeup trend from this year’s AMVCA’s ceremony – an evening usually compounded by bold beauty and ornate trimmings.

This year, the cool clan – Rita Dominic, Uru Eke, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Lilly Efe and Bamike from Big Brother Naija II – girls whom many thought will show up with an understated mound of glamour… but all of them went for a barely-there wash of pink across pout.

“Many actresses ask for nude makeup at this award this year. They’ve come to realize that keeping it simple but very beautiful is all they really need,” Corine Lastar, Cameroonian MUA tells us.

On watching the #amvca2018 red carpet live show on TV, Saturday night, a fan wrote on Facebook, “I hope Cameroonian artists learn the trick… it is not when you do heavy brows that you get the sleek look. More is less and less is more. If you know, you know.”
