Daphne is one of Cameroon’s most loved music stars but when it came to her recent performance in Geneva, Switzerland, Cameroonians didn’t show up to support her at the concert ground. Was her concert boycotted?

The singer, best known for her hit song, “Calee” met an almost empty field when she mounted the stage in Geneva to thrill her audience with her hottest songs.

A close source tells us most Cameroonians were too busy to show up and some had no idea the singer was coming for a show in Geneva.

“It’s really sad what happened,” our source tells us. “We really do love her song ‘Calee’. In fact my kids sing it but we really had no idea she was to be in town. I also hear that some English-speaking Cameroonians boycotted the event saying why should she be performing when others are dying in the country… I really don’t know but i wish we knew she was coming, we should have bought tickets to attend,” ended our source.

Fans have been asking many questions about the poor turn out of an event which was highly-publicized on Trace Africa. Some want to know if Trace Africa airs on cable TV in Switzerland. Did fans know Daphne was coming to town? Isn’t she loved in Switzerland? Are Cameroonians nonchalant about concert culture in Europe?

The questions are many and no one to answer them because since days after the bad publicity, organizers of the event are yet to release a statement responding to the poor turn out. Neither has Daphne said a thing.

As we earlier reported, Daphne’s “Calee” has surpassed three million views on YouTube making her the female  urban artist with the most viewed music video in Cameroon.

But we can’t help but ask, who are those watching this video – Africans in Africa or Africans in the diaspora?
