Internet connections shut down in Southern Cameroons, celebrities react
Southern Cameroons – North West and South West regions of Cameroon – have been cut off internet connections since 8:00 pm on January 17, right after news broke online that the Consortium has been banned and its President, Barrister Nkongho Felix arrested. Now, celebrities are reacting on social media.
Many blame the recent happenings on H.E Issa Tchiroma, Minister for Post and Telecommunications in Cameroon, whom is alleged to have said social media is responsible for the publication of false reports about the current crisis in both the North West and South West Regions.
According to some, the cut may have been ordered so as to prevent images or reports about the arrest to go viral. But others say its just to prevent citizens from feeding the international world about what exactly is happening in both regions… which include police brutality, forceful arrests of innocent citizens who are demanding for a change in the country and a strong call for international aid amidst the crisis which has already taken lives and destroyed properties.
“The Banning of the CONSORTIUM is the biggest Political Blunder to date… Mr. President, banning the CONSORTIUM only deepens the crises… The SLAVE has already risen above the MASTER… The people of West Cameroon have RISEN and no amount of banning or smear or intimidation tactics or military deployments would solve the crises. Sir, I am afraid, You are gradually leaning towards a GENOCIDE,” Film maker Kang Quintus writes on his Facebook.
“Is it true that Our consortium has been banned? There goes democracy!” Adeline Sede, top event planner asks on Facebook.
“In my opinion the regime is use to banning things instead of educating people and coming closer to the people. Let’s remind ourselves of the number of things that have been banned in Cameroon before? How do you ban a group of people you have tried to bribe and had failed negotiations with lol. The regime is a joke.” Anrette Ngafor, top fashion designer reacts.
“Free them! #Consortium arrests! Banning the #Consortium only validates our plea. #UCantpausethechange,“ Tito Valerie , popular On Air Personality writes.
“No internet in Southern Cameroon????? But why? Wait so MTN , Nextel and Orange aren’t worried about loosing money ? I smell a rat #anglophoneproblem,” actress Nsang Dilong writes on Facebook.
