“Lack of cinemas is killing film business in Cameroon” – Syndy Emade
Syndy Emade says the lack of cinemas in Cameroon is preventing proper film promotion and distribution in the country.
The actress and producer explains that it is one of the major factors causing the Cameroon film industry to grow at a very slow rate.
“The lack of cinemas is a major problem,” Emade tells Team 237 Magazine. “We barely have cinemas in Cameroon; which is a major factor for the growth of a movie industry anywhere in the world because movies cannot be based only on DVDs,” she added.
Emade who has featured in more than 8 major films in the country further explains that cinemas are important not just for movie lovers but they provide employment, increase cinema culture, provide a venue for film makers to premiere their films, watch and learn from foreign films screened and in essence create a forum which could bring fans closer to actors and actresses.
However, the Cameroonian beauty also pin points lack of huge investments into film making, lack of togetherness and unity among film makers and the existence of very few TV houses and online platforms as major factors preventing the growth of the film industry in Cameroon.
