After taking home the Young Designer of the Year special award at the FIAFA 2017, one would think fast rising designer, Amah Bertrand would be nominated at the forthcoming first ever, Cameroon Fashion Awards (CFA). But that is not the case!
Amah Bertrand, Founder of the famous Amah Fashion House (AFH) is completely snubbed on this year’s Cameroon Fashion Awards list of nominations, published Thursday, November 16.

The young designer is no where to be found on the prestigious fashion list of nominated and recognized designers in Cameroon. In fact, in the categories for “Best Young Designers” and “Best Male Fashion Designer,” he’s also been sidelined. And the big question is WHY?
An inside source tells us AFH couldn’t get a nomination because he’s been accused of being a fraud and not original.
“He [Amah Bertrand] couldn’t be included in the list of nominations for CFA 2017 because there are rumors flying around that he’s a fraudster. There is word that he’s not the authentic designer he claims to be and these type of stories are truly worrisome to the award’s brand,” a source tells us anonymously.
“We cannot start a fashion award with this magnitude and hope of validation and perfection and be surrounded with such allegations. A tough decision had to be made and that’s it,” the source explains.
In what was supposed to be an EXCLUSIVE chat on Facebook Messenger with us last October, Amah Bertrand made it clear that these were just mere allegations and he had no idea where they were coming from.
“Whoever is plotting against me, I leave it to my God. Whoever sits to say nonsense about me because they feel challenged by our growth, I pray God guides them more because in 2018, we will have one of the biggest production houses. I got that worked out already,” Amah told us.
Meanwhile, rumor has it that the young entrepreneur does not produce his own clothes. Instead he buys already made clothes from other designers from across Cameroon and other countries then brands them as his.

“I have been in this business and the game for just two years and done so much for myself. I do my work with so much pride because I know how much I ache my head to produce and come up with stuffs. Although, nothing stops clients from sending patterns and styles for us to do which maybe are from other brands, I stand to the fact that I’ve never done or posted or taken credit of what’s not mine on any on my social media platforms. Instead, I see a lot of copy work and it doesn’t even bother me because I am so devoted to my growth and business so much,” the designer tries to clear the air.
So the question remains, why then will such a promising Cameroonian designer, who claims his work is now been copied by other designers, miss out on a fashion award which aims to recognize and reward true and budding Cameroonian fashion designers?

Azah is just one of them lucky guys who shine while those with the real talent don’t. A Mah for sure could be termed a fraud star. Can Amah even stitch with his hands? Talkless of seating on a sawing machine? Some say “fashion inspires fashion”. There might be 1 in 10 dresses that he brandishes that’s his design the rest is just “copy n paste”. If he was left out, them award nomination committees are now realizing the truth. Amah good luck any ways. Ur a business man. Not being “nominated” should not stop ur business. 😁

Why is he called a fashion designer if he doesn’t design the clothes? Designers can have workshops and secret tailors, thats fine but does he even design the clothes by himself? Does he sew? He should show some proof!
Fashion designer who doesn’t design is that one a fashion designer. Amah Bertrand, truth be told, we have never seen you sketch an outfit … We have never seen you with your tailors or even in a workshop, yet you go about claiming you are a fashion designer.

I agree with the organizers of this award. No award show will want such a person accused of these things to be part of their show. But then, the designer has nothing to hide if he’s genuine. even the biggest world designers open their workshop to the media so why is he hidding anything? He’s making things worse for himself.

Let’s start with the award, it’s not creadible, if not u will not give him best last year and dis year u say Shit. Let the jury go and do their home work well. Cameroonians are good only at doing/seeing wrong things. Amah is a young talented guy, those who can not take it /or are not comfortable should use a robe or better still drink poison and get the hell outta our progress.
Pls guys let this guy be does the owner of Gucci sew l the jeans shirts and shoes he has a vision and is after it a designer must not sew if he inspires other tailors who don’t know about branding and can market his products via that it’s cool for For 21st century business who is even creating what the world is no longer original u must copy some thing its just about creating value this guy is great ans doing a good job if he takes and brand that implies he is the designer as he does not just buy what he sees but he gives specifications pls I don’t have much to tell u but think of OEM its cool and being smart deserves an award too
