4 Biggest Mistakes People Make When Starting a Side Hustle

Most successful startups began as side hustles, a project that their founders worked on in their spare time. Also, a side hustle can be an opportunity to work on a personal passion and expand your network while also bringing in a secondary revenue stream.

Starting a side hustle could be an exciting prospect in terms of earning extra cash but seeing it through to creation could be quite challenging. While executing, a few mistakes may occur. but hey! They can be avoided.

Here are some of the mistakes people make when starting a side hustle:

  1.  They seek approval from others;

    Do not go about seeking approval or feedback from others so as to validate your plan. The only person you need on your side in your venture is you! If you must seek feedback, consult with someone doing the business you seek to do or who has done the business before to get insight into the business and not for approval.

  2. They choose a business idea they’re not in love with;

    You have to love what you do. Do not choose something just because it will bring you money, or because everyone doing it. Your passion will see you through the hard times and setbacks, so choose to create a product or service you’re crazy about.

  3. They’re discouraged by competition.

    In the early stages of a hustle, you want to make sure you’ll have buyers ready and that you won’t have to educate a market with a totally fresh offering. Research and learn from people doing businesses similar to yours. Be inspired (and not intimidated) by what they do.

  4. They don’t network.

    Networking is an essential part of building wealth. Having connections, hustle buddies, or a tribe will keep you going. Team up with other hustlers and entrepreneurs at every opportunity. The bigger your networking circle is, the more “luck” you will have.

Hopefully you use these mistakes as your lessons for growing your side hustle.
