5 things we learned from the Jovi, Stanley Enow, Wax Dey saga

The Cameroon entertainment industry was blessed this week with what most have termed one of the biggest celebrity social media war in 2017.  A Twitter battle between the country’s most popular rappers, even though Stanley Enow’s big brother, Martin did all the talking from the Motherland Camp.

First, it was Jovi who slandered Stanley on his Twitter, calling him a wack rapper and wet p*ssy before calling Magasco a pig and Pit Baccardi … well, a pit! Neither three responded to the New Bell Music boss, instead Martin Enow did! The CEO of Motherland reign down on Jovi like a prey referring to him as broke, frustrated and weed-infested.

The war could have come to a close until singers Salatiel and Wax Dey requested for a dis track between Jovi and Stanley to end their cold war once and for all but it was Wax who went a step further by coughing out five million francs to anyone who will compose the diss track. Fans however slammed the businessman for neglecting his own artist, Stanis Le Dragon’s career while trying to salvage others’. The beefs went for days but here are five things we picked out from the entire saga.

1. There will be no Jovi/Stanley Enow collaboration any time soon.

In the course of his fight with and humiliation on Twitter by Martin Enow, Jovi has made it categorically clear he will not do a song with Stanley Enow or any artists like him ever. So if you have been dreaming of that collabo, scrap it off so fast. It’s not happening soon.

2. Childishness in showbiz

There was no reason why Jovi woke up one morning and slandered Stanley, Magasco and Pit Baccardi (at least he hasn’t given any). Which leaves many to assume, he was probably bored, seeking for attention or was high on some weed. Martin Enow’s reply was fair enough but bringing Jovi’s kid and baby mama into the drama was unnecessary. In fact it was a cheap shot! Fans reaction to the whole drama was a bit weird given the fact that none of them know these stars too well to know why they acted so crazy on social media.

3. Business opportunities exposed

Fans may have hammered on Wax Dey for acting ‘stupid’ but hey, he’s a businessman and business men take every opportunity very seriously. There’s nothing wrong in laying down 5 million FCFA on a bet you know no one will agree to take. However, the name Wax will ring a bell for a long time. But what if that diss track was made, do we need to remind you of how much, Jovi, Stanley Enow or even Wax would stand to make as the mastermind behind the track? Downloads on iTunes alone, plus, a producer will get a job!

4. Calabash Music found wanting!

Wax Dey, who is co-owner of Calabash Music – host of rapper Stanis Le Dragon – dug his own grave when he offered 5 million FCFA to a Jovi-Stanley Enow distrack. He didn’t just get humiliation from a younger brother, Jovi on Twitter but fans questioned his ability to manage another artist better than himself. Many asked why Stanis’ career has been going south while he has 5m to squander around. “Why not use that money to shoot your artist a new video?” one asked. Stanis seem to be wallowing in penury and lack of self-confidence… with a career as stagnant as a lake while his oga at the top can just ‘dash’ 5m on a stupid beef? (Wax is yet to respond.)

5. Lack of professionalism

While Naeto C (considered Nigerian Jay Z) won’t mind doing a collabo and making money with indigenous rappers, Olamide or Phyno or CDQ, Jovi sees no reason why he should work with Stanley Enow despite the fact that a lot of money will be made off the song.  Jovi says Enow is Wack and Martin Enow says Jovi is a frustrated beat maker. Who cares? Why not merge Jovi’s incredible beat making, rap skills and Enow’s “wackness” which comes with a marketing brilliance, international presence and award winning ability to do magi and MAKE MONEY? Its not called SHOWBIZ for nothing… except some people aren’t professional at all.
