5 things you should know about Mr. Leo

He’s the ‘ladies’ man’ with a powerful and richly textured voice. A voice which has convincingly charmed most Cameroonians and people across Africa. It’s no surprise that everyone wants a piece of Mr. Leo even without knowing what he’s truly made of. Here are five things you’ll probably like to know about the Alpha Better Records signed artist who hates talkatives and people who nag.

1.)  He may sound and appear to be a francophone but Mr. Leo is a native of the English-speaking Banso Town, a popular tribe found in Kumbo Sub-Division, North West Region of Cameroon. His real name is Fonyuy Nsobunrika Leornard but he says his favorite town in Cameroon is Buea where he currently resides.

2.) Mr. Leo was neither born a singer nor did his music career begin in a church choir at the age of four. As a young boy, he never even saw himself as a musician. Surprisingly, it all started in 2010 and three years after, he released his first official single ‘E Go Better’ – a song which plunged him into the spotlight and gave him a well-deserved national recognition.

3.) His fan base may be larger than life now but back then, Mr. Leo could hardly convince his own friends and peers that he would be a world-class music act. In fact, he was mocked and laughed at because his mates just couldn’t relate to his style of singing.  Fast forward to 2010, singer Dr. Sley and later Salatiel took delight in his unique style of delivery and gave him the chances of a lifetime.

4.) If he wasn’t doing music, Mr. Leo may have tried his hands in football. Back in school, he was seen as a local champion who led his team to multiple victories. Maybe he would be playing with the Indomitable Lions today!

5.) His ability to sing in both English and French is as a result of having a military dad who migrated from one military camp to another. Apparently most military camps in Cameroon are occupied by Francophone families and in order to survive and have friends in the camp, Leo had no choice than to learn the common language.
