Bonteh Digital Media Awards to reward excellence in Cameroon’s digital field

Cameroonians are gearing up towards the first ever Bonteh Digital Media Awards (BDMA) and the founder, Bonteh Engelbert is talking to us on why he came up with an award to celebrate and reward those excelling in the digital field in Cameroon and Africa in general.

In an exclusive interview with Bonteh Engelbert, the young entrepreneur admits that the idea wasn’t a long time plan but it came as a pleasant surprise.

“It came up like a spark!,” Bonteh reveals to us. “During the planning phase of our training program in Yaounde,” he added.

BDMA 2017 is created to showcase, honor and promote excellence in the digital field in Africa and Cameroon. Truth be told, the digital field has been on a north movement in Cameroon in the last 6-7 years and there’s no doubt that Cameroon has produced some of the most relevant IT innovators in Africa including Njorku.com.

However, with the level of criticisms swelling up behind previous awards shows and their alleged poor organisation and questionable authenticity, the BDMA 2017 is faced with more pressure than its founder can possibly imagine.

“Well truthfully, there’s more pressure on the team. Critics are all waiting to see what we’ll have to offer. We have carefully observed what didn’t go right with other awards and do everything within our reach to correct them with our event,” Bonteh admits.

The dream, in years to come, is that #BDMA will go continental. Showcasing and honoring excellence of African tech and digitalpreneurs It’s very possible, you just need the right team and support from your community! Lets see how the 1st edition goes,” he added.

The Bonteh Digital Media Awards 2017 is scheduled to hold in Buea come December.
