Maahlox makes history, Fills Up Palais des Sports Hip Hop concert

Let me just start by saying congratulations Maahlox for organising one of the biggest Hip Hop concerts in Cameroon by any Cameroonian artist.

Maahlox Le Vibeur‘s desire to fill up the Palais des Sports complex in Yaounde was fueled by the fact that a foreign artist, Congolese singer, Fally Ipupa  did the same thing during his last concert.

The controversial rapper took it as a challenge to do the same and to prove to both event organisers, artists and the Ministry of Culture that as Cameroonians, we don’t need foreign artists to headline our shows before we can see a full house. Maahlox made history, June 27 by filling up the sports complex and has been receiving so much love and accolades from his fellow colleagues and the media.

What was the main objective of the #MaahloxAuPaposy concert? Filling it up or providing a spectacular show to the audience? Well, Maahlox achieved both goals in a concert organised barely 0ne month ago, with no sponsors and  no major television ad campaign. In fact, most of the communication was done through social media, with a few last minute radio tours in Yaoundé.

The concert was graced by some Indomitable Lions players such as Tekeu, Alex Song, Kameni just to name a few. These lions came to support the concert which Maahlox also used as an opportunity to celebrate the death of the legendary, Marc Vivian Foe, who died June 26, 2003 during the FIFA Confederations Cup.  A calm minute of silence was given in his name.

As far as the performances were concerned, the stage was given to a good number of young talents who thrilled the crowd and perhaps won new fans. There were some few English speaking artistes who performed during the first phase: Mel B. Akwen and JOY.  Mel B’s performance was OK, but that of JOY, who performed one of her ”Mash Up” series, wasn’t well appreciated.

After the first phase of young talents performed, all hell breaks loose as soon as Maahlox stepped on stage. Paposy was on fire, every single soul stepped on their feet. It was a moment. Things went crazier when Maahlox began bringing on stage surprise guest artistes.

Firstly, it was Salatiel performing ‘Bougez La Bas’ alongside Maahlox. Then came Mr. Leo with his hit song, ‘Partout’. Daphne on her part, told her fans that her love for her man is ‘Jusqu’à la Gare’ as she killed her performance with other songs like, ‘Calee’ and  ‘Promet Moi’.

Rap icon, Pit Baccardi and his Empire Company main man, Magasco also stepped on stage performing ‘Arrêtez’ and ‘Sokoto’ respectively. Other guest artistes such as Krotal and Koppo came to show their support.

The last guest artist who killed the show was Tenor, who also happens to have own challenge to fill up Paposy in August… Thus his presence and support for Maahlox was very necessary.

The crowd was full of energy, they kept cheering from the word GO! To the phrase Thanks for coming. Many of them who didn’t have private transport returned home soaked in rain but with smiles on their faces. Money was well spent, artists nailed their performances and there was money in the bag for Maahlox.

History was made and Maahlox‘s name goes down in it. It was an amazing concert and you can confirm that from the screenshots below!
