Vanessa Monjoa: Mutzig Star 2017 winner finally gets paid

It has taken three months and a viral social media campaign with the hashtag, #PayVanessa, for Cameroon’s national brewery company, Brasseries du Cameroun to finally pay Vanessa Monjoa, winner of the 2017 Mutzig Star music competition.

Brasseries du Cameroun faced heavy backlash last week when reports surfaced online that Vanessa Monjoa had not received her prize money – a brand new car and one million FCFA – three months after winning the highly publicized reality TV show.

Popular media personality, Valery Dulafe took to his Facebook early Thursday, March 15 to raise the question why VAJ is yet to be gifted what she worked so hard to achieve. He wrote an open letter to the national  Brewery Company asking questions and assuring them this won’t be so easy to throw under the rug.

“Mutzig star,
If you don’t know yet my name is DULAFE.
A proud son of the Nso land and a son to a Lion. I am a journalist not by favor but by divine calling. No one I mean no one will stop me from calling on you to pay all you owe this lady called Monjoa Vanessa‘. You used her and other young Cameroonians to run your fraudulent game. You sold a dream to Cameroonians and deceived them. You pretended handing a check to her in front of the entire world and promised her a car you never gave. I am sure the authorities of Mutzig do know you have not yet given her price but know this we will not stop until you pay in every penny you owe her.

You lied to Cameroonians. Used her to get people to consume your products, got money from partners yet treat her like shit. But you forgot one thing, not every journalist can be bought and the threats can’t scare me. I will stand by her even I am alone. I promise to rally people, youths, press men and all those who matter and we will match and organise a sitting of A YEAR in front of every main point of your outlet and that you can count on it.

You are just one of such organisers of such emblematic shows in Cameroon that we need to use to set a clear example for those who have been doing so. You steal from these children because they can’t speak. Baams, DA thrill were also victims. It will stop. You guys where smart but you made a mistake. You handed her the trophy in front of the whole world. The whole world is her witness. So I call on every Person who needs justice to be done to download the pic alongside mine, do a photogride of her picture beside and say ” pay venessa “. Then tag me. Lawyers who have been calling me since morning I thank you. We will get to the roots of this.

It might be you tomorrow. Let’s clean our industry.

DULAFE SPEAKS”

On March 19, the supposed victim, Monjoa Vanessa took to her Facebook page to assure her fans and friends as well as the #payvanessa advocators to know that Brasseries du Cameroun was never a problem and she wasn’t even complaining about not being paid… yet!

After the above post, Valery Dulafe told his followers to be rest assured that despite what is written in Monjoa‘s post, he is glad her money has been paid thanks to the voice of the masses.

“Ok guys.
Just saw this and said I share since I started this movement #payvanessa‘. Monjoa Vanessa‘ we thank you for Coming out and we understand your message. In a country where everything is possible, we will watch and bless you. So I will like to thank all the family who joined me in seeking for Justice and all. We did our best and now the best is…………… Stay blessed and once more congratulations. So as the initiator of the #payvanessa movement, I say “it’s a wrap”.
