South West Cultural Festival 2017 set to revitalize December in Buea

The Delegation of Arts and Culture in the South West Region has announced that Buea will host the second edition of the South West Cultural Festival scheduled to take place December 9 – December 16 at the Buea Stadium Annex, Molyko.

The South West Cultural Festival (SWCF) is a cultural forum which contributes in strengthening the unity of the people of the South West Region. It is also an opportunity for custodians of our cultures to revive, preserve and transmit their priceless knowledge to the younger generation.

The SWCF rotates from one division to another. Its 1st Edition was held in Kumba ( December 5-12, 2015).

“The festival is a tool that can serve to lobby for national and international investments for the preservation of our rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage through Chiefdoms and Councils,” Grace Ewang, SW Regional Delegate of Arts and Culture explains.

“This year’s event plans to get everybody together and involved in breathing some life into the culture and customs of the people of the South West Region. There’s so much to celebrate here and we want both the old and the young, elites and traditional, men, women and children to come out and be part of this celebration of originality, tradition and heritage,” she adds.

The South West Cultural Festival 2017 will feature various exciting activities such as a women canoe race, cultural dance displays, regional tours, projection of Cameroonian films, music concerts and special DJ sessions. There will also be a work shop on Cultural Heritage and Museums at the Cameroon Cultural Center and a phenomenal Folklore night at the Molyko Stadium.

“We want people to have a taste of tradition and urban lifestyle during this festive period and get Buea vibrant again. This town is blessed with so much. The South West people have a rich culture which many Cameroonians have no idea about. It’s time for us to come and experience, celebrate and enjoy one week of culture, arts and great music performances while we usher ourselves and families into the Christmas period,” says the regional delegate, Grace Ewang

The South West Cultural Festival begins December 9 with a female canoe race in Limbe at 7:00 AM.
