“Makossa is dead” – Nernos blasts Cameroon’s iconic tune

Is Makossa really dead in Cameroon?

Rapper Nernos has confirmed the shocking death of Makossa music in Cameroon and claims he, among other urban music stars, are the new generation of musicians in the country.

The young rapper dropped the bomb in his verse on “Mangosi”, the latest track from Ngoma which features Nernos and Kikoh.

In the highly street oriented song, the “Je suis pas moi Bobo” crooner is heard saying and repeating that, “Makossa is dead,” and “na we be ototon for di elobi”. Meaning they’ve been in the game too long to become rulers of the music industry in Cameroon.

Nernos lines were coming after Ngoma declares that “Mangosi” isn’t Makossa but he expects fans to listen and feel it just like Makossa music.

It’s true that Makossa music isn’t what it used to be back in the day in terms of popularity in Africa and the world over. Makossa artists – both young and veterans – are finding it hard to meet up with today’s fast pace in technology especially when it comes to internet downloads and social media presence. But does this justify its alleged death?

“Mangosi” is produced by Sangtum (Dj Pazzo) and the video is shot by award winning director Shamak Allharamaji.
